“The exhibition is the first historically oriented, critical examination of the history of the college to focus on differentiated and complex formations of the early years. Alongside works by forty-two artists, archival materials and film interviews with thirteen protagonists who were involved from day one are presented for the purpose of delineating historic-cultural conditions, teaching methods, and the understanding of works of art in the founding years (1061-1969) and its continued development in the first ten years of CalArts (1970-1980).” (pgs. 11-12)
